Idea
Due to the full-scale Russian invasion, the architectural environment of the front-line and temporarily occupied regions of Ukraine will suffer irreparable damage. The construction of large and small cities, formed during the comprehensive development of urban areas in the late 1950s and 1980s, suffered the most. It was then in the cities of Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhya, Luhansk, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Kherson Oblast and Crimea specific examples of the "second wave" of domestic architectural modernism appear. These are both large planning entities and a number of individual objects. Currently, in the national cultural space there is no publicly available systematized information regarding the heritage of modernism of the specified regions. Therefore, it is impossible to audit the preservation of its most valuable samples, which are under threat of destruction or access to which is significantly complicated for domestic and international experts. The proposed project provides a comprehensive solution to the raised problem of access to information about the heritage of domestic architectural modernism of the front-line and temporarily occupied regions of Ukraine. With the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation, the creation of the thematic website "Fragile Heritage" opens access to all interested parties, including foreign experts, to digital copies of archival and library materials specially produced as part of the project, which record the modernist heritage of Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhya, Luhansk, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Kherson Oblasts and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
